Eliminating Morning Sickness: The Solution You've Been Looking For!

Up to 80% of pregnant women experience some form of nausea and vomiting, especially in the first trimester. This can lead to dehydration and, of course, discomfort. During my first pregnancy, my experience with “morning sickness” was anything but typical. I remember puking all day and even puked during the night if I woke up, I had to drive with a little puke bucket as my passenger because I’d have no time to pull over. It didn’t stick to the first trimester either, I finally stopped puking at about 28 weeks gestation! Mine was a bit of a horror story and I know that everyone’s experience with morning sickness is different, but even those who barely get nauseous know it’s not a great feeling. The good news is that there is a solution!

In a recent study, 100 pregnant women who were experiencing nausea and vomiting were split into two groups. The first group was given lemon essential oil to smell every time they felt queasy, while the second group was given a placebo.

The results of the study are exciting, so exciting that I recommend this trick to every expecting, nauseous mama. The group who smelled the lemon essential oil reported a significant decrease in nausea and vomiting within a couple of days compared to the placebo group. The women who used the oil also reported feeling more relaxed and less anxious.

This uplifting effect of lemon essential oil could be attributed to its calming properties, as well as its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant powers, which can help reduce inflammation and oxidative stress in the body.

It's worth noting that some oils, like peppermint, have been suggested to alleviate vomiting during pregnancy. While other oils can have calming effects, research has revealed that they don't actually decrease nausea during pregnancy. In fact, the benefits are so minimal that it may not be worthwhile to attempt using them.

DISCLAIMER: While the study suggests that lemon essential oil is a safe and effective remedy for reducing nausea in pregnant women, it's important to note that essential oils should be used with caution, especially during pregnancy. It's always best to use high quality essential oils and to consult with your healthcare provider before using any essential oils or other natural remedies during pregnancy.
